This is the commonest form of inflammatory arthritis. RA can affect anyone aged 16 years or more. Females are slightly more affected. The symptoms include symmetrical joint pain, swelling and stiffness in the early morning. The diseases can cause permanent deformities and affect other organs like heart and lungs if not diagnosed and managed appropriately. The disease is diagnosed from the patient’s symptoms and simple blood tests and X rays. This is an eminently treatable disease especially if diagnosed early.
